Kitty gets her pre-registration packet for NYU, and there is much squeeing. Wandering by her ex-counselors room, it becomes clear that everyone needs to hear about this, starting with him.
The one good thing about Remy returning to the mansion, was that he´d taken over the office and the contact files, leaving Jake free to do other things. Like conducting experiments in sandwich making and watching Stargate: Atlantis. Someone had told him the kid, Forge, was as sarcastic as McKay. Jake was considering checking that out. He was fairly sure that was the kid he´d seen with the basketball a couple of times. But right now, he was relaxing. His laptop on the corner table, two green files whose contents were particularly amusing, McKay bitching on the tv and three pineapple sandwiches. Life was good.
Kitty was practically bouncing along, the packet that had come in the mail that afternoon still clutched tightly to her chest as she beamed at the world. She'd known she was accepted months ago, but having the actual forms and files and everything to fill out for freshman week and pre-registration was an entirely different matter. They weren't due for almost a month, and so now she was faced with the quandary of whether or not to fill them out NOW so they'd get there faster, or hold onto them and squee about it all for a couple weeks. She bounced down the hall, then came to a double fast stop as she realized what door she'd just passed. That was Wanda's room, which was Jake's room. Jake, who was back, and she hadn't had a chance yet to say 'hi'. She spun about and rapped on the door, bouncing in place until he answered.
"Door´s open!" he shouted in direction of the door, loath to leave the couch. This was very comfortable, this was. Jake stretched, poking the table with his foot happily.
Opening doors was for other people, and Kit was in too good of a mood to think about things like that. She phased out and bounced through the door, talking about a mile a minute as she cleared it into the air of his room. "Jake! You're back! Hi! I failed to bring cookies, which is a terrible thing, I know, or even any food at all, which undoubtedly compounds the error, although I think I have some gum in my pocket, if you want, but I did bring this!" The file with the shiny NYU on the cover and the thick packet of papers was thrust towards him, a bright grin on her face. "So, would I be more valuable to Infotech with a degree or four?"
"Infonet," he corrected, then realized what she was saying. He sat up, waving her towards him, thoroughly interested. "You´re in? I´m trying to install a compulsion in everyone that when they see me, they bring food, but I can forgive you for this time if I can --" he grabbed the file from her and started flipping through it. "have a look at this. Did you just get this?"
"Whee!" She couldn't quite help herself either the 'whee' or the little pirouette before she dropped into one of his chairs. "Yep! Just in the mail today!" She was talking in exclamation points, she could tell. Time to rein it in, just a bit. "Knew already I was in, actually I already have a student job as a lab tech in one of the physics labs, but it's not real till you can pre-register, you know. Whee!" Well, just a bit.
Jake grinned. Academic squeeing, it was adorable. She looked like she was trying hard not to bounce in place, but failing magnificently. He flipped back through the file to check the reply deadline. "I understand. I was never quite this excited about school, but... Are you going to fill it out now, or walk around for two weeks pushing it into people´s faces being all bouncy?"
"This is the question," Kitty answered. "And it's one which I haven't got an answer for yet. Am still processing, and one must get the full bounce out of it all. Also, you would be bouncy, too, if you a) had as much of a thing for physics as I have, and b) had seen their particle physics lab and been promised you could play with the machines."
"Well, I do feel the same about my Infonet account, I think," Jake said after a moments consideration. "And, with degrees, your pay would probably be astronomical."
Kitty grinned. "Excellent. Just so I know what I'm not taking. At least not now." She managed to sit still for a full fifteen seconds, but was up out of the chair like a rocket afterwards. "Wheee! I think I've said that, but it bears repeating. Welcome back by the way, or did I already say that, too?"
"Dad will be so disappointed," Jake said mildly. Direct recruiting wasn´t his job, so he didn´t feel the need to to attempt to talk her into it. "And, I have no idea. I was distracted by the shiny folder. Thanks though. And congratulations. I feel there should be cake to celebrate."
"Oooh, cake. I'm for cake. Is it not shiny? Shiniest of all shiny things. If there is going to be cake we should take Jamie, too, because he is also going to NYU, although I did not see if there was a packet for him, too, because it was shiny and distracted me."
A puppy, Jake decided. She was like a little excited puppy. "It´s very shiny," he agreed. He thought for a moment, glancing towards the tv where McKay was currently hiding from monsters, then turned the tv off. "You know what? Go find Jamie and whoever else you want, and I´ll buy you all cake. Academic achievements must be celebrated."
Hugs were in order, clearly, although the hugger must be very careful to not damage the very shiny folder held in the huggees hands, or the huggee. Somehow or other this was accomplished, along with yet another "Wheee!" and a "Cake!" Kitty bounced away, somehow having reacquired the folder. "You are clearly the best, Jake. I'm going to NYU!"
He laughed, waving her away. He thought he could get Simon at cafe Carino to whip up a celebratory cake, and the whole... celebratory thing. Jake had no idea what was supposed to go along with the cake. If any. Of course, in return, he felt strongly that any and all occasions could be made better with cake. He brightened. Maybe there could be more than one cake, even!
