Nate and Cain go for the promised beer. The conversation turns to father and families, and manages to get somewhat heated.

The luxury of doubt. )

Nathan's back from San Francisco, and Madelyn has a few very pointed things to say to him. She gives him some food for thought. He's not particularly happy about it, but he listens.

Back to reality. )

Nathan dreams, or Sees. There are too many keys and a scarcity of locks. What does that say about cause and effect?

Little earthquakes. )

In San Francisco, Nathan heads off to call Moira and then to crash after another lengthy if alarmingly normal conversation with his father. A hour or so later, Saul gets a phone call.

We'll see what tomorrow brings. )

Betsy finds Nathan getting ready for his trip to San Francisco, and offers an apology for her behavior during Saul's visit (behavior that was sparked by a similarity to someone she used to know). This does not mean that she approves of his weekend plans.

I think I like your real name better. )

Wanda and Madelyn meet up at the local bar on their last night to compare research notes. They discover that they've both found just as much as the other one. Zip and zilch. And they don't know if this is a good thing or a bad thing.

So, what do you feel like? The steak or the steak? )

Tuesday night, after Saul's visit, Nathan drives his father back to the airport. Saul makes a suggestion, and tells him something that makes it clear he understands his son surprisingly well, even after such a short acquaintance.

I get the sense that this has been very hard on your nerves. )

Unable to sleep, Nathan reviews some more of the cult files Madelyn pointed him towards. It triggers a precognitive 'moment', but it doesn't tell him anything helpful. Or does it?

Flash forward. )

The Great Fact-Finding Alaskan Road Trip Part 1! Madelyn and Wanda talk during the drive into the very small town that was the closest thing to civilisation for the settlement Nathan grew up in.

The most excitement I'm after on this trip is beating the locals at pool when we're done. )

After these emails, Nathan leaves the mansion to call Saul. The conversation goes some interesting places. Nathan asks a couple of very key questions and gets answers he didn't expect. A few things come out that maybe shouldn't have, and it all ends in an invitation.

Have you heard the saying about a ship in port? )

Frustration over the state of his memories finally gets to Nathan, and he decides to try something new to try and break through the blocks. We finally find out just what Askani thinks about the whole situation.

You need to stop wanting to shape your reality to his! )

Alison chooses a very good - or a very bad - morning to go sit in the sunroom. (It depends on your perspective.) Nathan is in serious trouble and pulls her down into the mess. But something new does surface.

Why does the world stop? I don't want to fall off the edge. )

Given that Madelyn has her end of the investigation into his father well-covered, Nathan goes to Jake for some additional help with the business end of things. Jake is mildly intrigued and agrees to chase the paper trail.

So I can be selfish with a relatively clear conscience... )
